John has 20 years of experience in strategy consulting, finance, corporate development, M&A, JVs and alliances, product development and marketing. He has worked with Fortune 500 and startups in financial services, media and technology, private equity, data services, student lending, software and eCommerce.
Previously, John was Managing Director of Corporate Development at Sallie Mae, where he managed M&A, divestitures, and strategic transactions. He led due diligence and valuation analysis for the acquisition of a $26B student loan portfolio, managed cross-functional project teams for due diligence of over $1.5B in potential acquisitions, and was a leader in the company’s entry into new markets.
Earlier, John was Senior Director at LexisNexis, where he drove growth of News and Business content and products across multiple vertical markets. He developed new customer messaging and sales force training, led improvements of financial tracking and analysis, and implemented new reporting MIS and corrected methodology gaps.
John was also Senior Manager of the Corporate Development Transactions Group at Capital One, where he led cross-functional teams on transactions including the acquisition of a national insurance brokerage platform InsLogic, and led post-merger integrations including eSmartloan. Prior to Capital One, he was Director of Financial Planning and Strategy at Clearcross, an eCommerce firm focused on software and services to enable international trade activities. He was also an Associate at Mercer Management Consulting and Corporate Decisions, Inc. (both now Oliver Wyman), where he specialized in customer-driven growth strategies and acquisition diligence for leading private equity funds.
John graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University with an A.B. in Economics, and has an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania.
